MATBAKH /
Branding
Matbakh - which translates to 'kitchen' - is a space that hosts cooking events focused on Arab cuisine. These events teach the users how to cook Arabic food by tackling one ingredient at a time. The product of these events is a publication dedicated to each ingredient covered by the different events.
I chose to move away from the typical medium used to represent food – photography, and instead used digital illustration. The color palette was limited to one or two colors that embodied the ingredient most vividly. The Arabic publications discuss the history of the ingredient, the myths and stories revolving around it, the places where the ingredient grows, how to use it, and three recipes that use the ingredient. Plates, placemats, and a couple of promotional posters inviting people to visit Matbakh were also created.
